The CFC of Greater Arkansas held the 2007 CFC
Campaign Kick Off at the Penick Boys and Girls Club in Little Rock on
Friday, September 14th. Over 80 participants from federal
organizations and various local agencies attended the breakfast
meeting.
The event began with the Little Rock Air Force Base
Color Guard presenting the colors followed by the signing of the
National Anthem by MSgt. Kelly Allen, ANG.
Chad Kauffman the CEO of The First Tee of Central
Arkansas was the keynote speaker at the event. Mr. Kauffman gave a
motivational speech based on a quote from former Chicago Bulls coach,
Phil Jackson, “The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of
the wolf is the pack”.
Jerry Henderson the chairman of the LFCC and MC
for the event announced the goal for the 2007 campaign; $865,000.00.
Mr. Henderson noted that federal employees had made pledges totaling
$863,579 for the 2006 campaign and with the leadership and commitment
from agency directors, campaign coordinators and dedicated federal
employee’s the LFCC believes the 2007 goal is attainable; in fact he
thought the CFC campaign may very well raise $900,000. Jerry talked
about the importance of the CFC campaign and how the more that 22,000
approved nonprofit charities benefit from federal employee donations.
Mr. Henderson noted federal employees had contributed over $5 Billion
dollars to the CFC since 1964.
A special thanks went to the Arkansas National
Guard for bringing the “Football Toss”. Participants threw a football
at a target from a short distance and then threw a second time wearing
goggles that impaired the person’s vision. This demonstration showed
what impact alcohol had on a person’s ability to judge distance.
It was an eye opener for many who thought about the impact it would have
on people drinking and driving a automobile.
The Campaign Celebration will be held in February
2008 after the close of the campaign.
